Although I am only able to do two or three each year, I am most interested in doing short residencies at schools in the Greater Richmond area. During a residency, the classroom teacher and/or librarian and I will plan a small writing unit tailored to the needs of the writing group. Residencies can run one or two weeks. Two one-hour planning meetings are usually required. I work best with grades 5 or higher.

I am also happy to visit schools as a presenter or panelist. I can do a large presentation in the auditorium or work with up to two small groups per day. If you click on the link below, you can download my speaking agreement.

What it costs

2010 Residencies in Greater Richmond: $500 per 5-day week. Planning fees are included in this fee.

Panelist and presenter fees for local schools in the Greater Richmond area: $300 per day, with a maximum of two class presentations or one large group presentation.

Other Virginia and Washington DC locations: $400 per day, plus travel expenses and hotel if necessary. I am open to negotiating a lower rate for multiple days for those schools who want to partner with others to bring me in as a guest speaker.

Out-of-state (beyond Virginia and Washington DC): $500 per day plus travel and hotel expenses.

Note: I do a much-reduced rate for schools where there is a significant Latino population and/or demonstrated economic need. Please contact me and we can discuss it.
